This time last week we were living it up in the Lough Erne Resort and Spa. This Saturday I have been cleaning and am 3 loads deep in washing. . . . it has been very much back to reality this week but it was such a welcome break while it lasted.
We didn’t have a babymoon prior to having Sam and now I really wish we had of. It would have been so nice to have that one last weekend away just us and to be pampered.
We were kindly invited to review the Blissful Babymoon package at Lough Erne and as it was our anniversary we decided to book another nights stay to celebrate and make the most of our child free break. Maybe we needed this break more this time due to already having Sam, with work and being married to a farmer (who come spring/summer I only seem to see when it rains) we have been like passing ships in the night.
We have never really been good at the whole date night thing and it’s so easy to let your relationship become second best when you have a 2 year old dictator on your hands so we tend to have nights out with our friends more and take it in turns to sit in and save the overnight babysitting tokens for something like a weekend away! We are already so lucky to have family help us with Sam during the week so never really want to take the biscuit!
We had never stayed at Lough Erne before so were so excited. We had been to an evening do at a wedding and stayed in the houses but had not really been in the hotel. We had heard so many good reports and were not disappointed!
Our room had a lakeside view, was so spacious and had an amazing bathroom. I couldn’t wait to have a soak free of plastic toys and a rubber non slip mat! 😂
On the Friday night we dined in The Catalina Restaurant which is the fine dining restaurant headed up by Executive Chef Noel McMeel and his team. It was an experience to say the least, we sampled the Spring Summer menu.
Noel came around beforehand chatting to all of the guests to say hello and to discuss our choices. Chris and I both actually changed our minds after speaking with him. Chris swapped from Beef Cheek to Pork which was cooked 4 ways and I swapped from Lamb to Duck accompanied with mandarin and Noel’s homemade honey, flavours I wouldn’t put together but its was A TATSE SENSATION!
We were stuffed after the meal and shared a dessert. The wine selection was fab and I loved that their was a glass of wine paired for each dish, we decided on a bottle of the Charles Smith ‘The Velvet Devil’ Merlot which was gorgeous. Despite being pregnant I allowed myself a glass to enjoy with my meal – maybe that’s why it tasted so good!lol! I even used my wine app to source where I could buy it come September!
There was a lovely atmosphere in the Blaney bar after our meal with live music being played too which was a bonus.
With the Blissful Babymoon package there are extra pillows in your room so you can get comfortable which is so welcome as any mum will know the tossing and turning can be endless! We lay in until 9am and it really was BLISS! (Well after the obligatory toilet wake ups as pregnancy bladder isnt fun!).
The breakfast was insane, there was so much selection from the buffet and a cook to order menu, we did not go hungry put it that way! We did walk it off a bit afterwards and managed to do the Collop walk and have a nosy at the golf course making the most of the day while it was dry.
In the afternoon as part of the Blissful Babymoon package we were able to each choose a 1 hour spa treatment or for Chris he could have done a round of golf. He loves a good massage though so we both hit the Spa! Chris went for the full body deep muscle massage and I had the pre natal maternity full body massage. Their brochure can be viewed HERE.
Chris said his was up there with the top ones he had had although he was sore afterwards it was down to how many knots the guy had got out! I on the other hand felt like I had been wrapped in cotton wool. I was so glad I hadn’t tanned as the massage started with a scrub on my back while sitting then I lay on my side and was tucked in by my therapist. Pillows between my legs, under the bump, at my back and bum and I think it’s the comfiest I have been lying down in a while – if only she could tuck me in like that every night!
I had one pre natal massage before having Sam but this was another level of comfort, I got my back, neck, shoulders all done (a few knots in there too not going to lie, my posture is rubbish and I work at a desk!) then my arms, legs and feet. My skin was like velvet after and I could have dosed off in the relaxation room afterwards no problem!
The relaxation rooms and pool have a lakeview and overlook the golf course, it had started to rain outside so it felt even nicer being indoors with nowhere to be and no one to wait on hand and foot!
We then hit the spa facilities, obviously I couldn’t use the sauna, steam room or Jacuzzi but I did have a swim and we had the pool to ourselves. I did feel bad at this point we didn’t have Sam with us as he loves swimming but I quickly forgot as we headed to the room for room service and a carefree nap!
As part of the Blissful Babymoon package you also get to choose from a ‘Cravings Menu’ for room service. We went for the pork ribs and the chocolate fondue. We ordered some extra chips and drinks to the room and felt like total lords dining out in our robes. We were both pretty full from breakfast so this was a perfect filler to see us through to dinnertime.
The downtime was so welcome, I even started my book and managed a nap! We then hit the bar to watch the rugby and ate in the Loughside Bar and Grill.
Again this has stunning views, it’s more casual then the Catalina which was perfect for us. The food was lovely but I do think no matter where we ate that second night nothing was going to compare to the previous nights meal. Perhaps we should have saved the Catalina for our second night!
Despite having a complementary 12pm checkout as part of the package on the Sunday we were awake fairly early (6am bodyclock with a 2 year old and being pregnant) and were able to have a slow start with a massive breakfast and be checked out and on the road for 10am!
It was honestly such a welcome break and was so nice to just be about us for once. Of course we spent most of the time talking about Sam and the baby (as you do) but it was just so nice to have no responsibilities for 48 hours.
I highly recommend having a babymoon if you are considering it, I really wish we had before having Sam! The Lough Erne has thought of everything in the package for both mum and dad to be. I have listed exactly what is included below and the price.
The Lough Erne also kindly offered our followers a complimentary Lakeview upgrade when they quote ‘Sisters and Sons’ over the phone when booking before Friday 14th June 2019 which is worth £40 per night. (Note: This promotion is available to new accommodation bookings only for stays between 1st June and 30th September 2019, subject to availability).
Bookings can only be made via resort Reservations Team on: +44(0)28 6632 3230

We would definitely return again, not for a baby-moon as number 3 is certainly not on my agenda right now 😂 but I do think a wee getaway as a couple is so important after baby has arrived and settled a few months down the line!
